It’s All About Saving Teeth: Root Canal Treatment Made More Easy & Acceptable

We always try to maintain the gifts of nature
Because the things in their original shape and condition have high survival rate.
Whenever there is an infection of a tooth, the first question that comes to mind is whether the tooth can be saved or not. As dentists are committed to conserve your natural smile, it is always the preference to save the tooth, if possible. RCT is the treatment of choice in such cases. Unfortunately, though, it is not uncommon for us to come across patients who dread the RCT procedure, thinking it to be highly uncomfortable, painful and time-consuming.

However, thanks to modern advanced dentistry, this has become far from reality. RCT is painless and takes considerably less recovery time, when compared to extraction, where the wound takes about one month to heal.

Some of the factors which make RCT a patient friendly experience are as follows:

RVG: Radiovisuograph (or RVG)  , as is commonly known, is the preferred method of teeth imaging in dentistry nowadays. It uses considerably less radiation (23%), as compared to the conventional method of X-Ray films. It also saves time as it takes only a few minutes to capture. It, therefore, helps the dentist to carry out the treatment undisrupted, which increases the success rate.

Apex Locator:  An apex locator helps to correctly measure the length of the roots of the teeth. Precision in length measurement is extremely important for the treatment to succeed. Originally, X-Rays were used for this, but it took more time. But the advent of apex locator has made it easier for both dentist and patient, and also the need for radiographs is reduced, thereby decreasing the radiation exposure.

Rotary Instruments:  Earlier, RCT involved removing the pulp (living tissue) from the inside of tooth’s root canals manually, using instruments called files. But these days, motor-driven instruments, called Rotary Instruments, are available. They are much faster and are also devoid of any unpleasant drilling noise. This helps in completing the RCT in a short span of time. Therefore, the experience of an Endodontist and the knowledge of newer techniques go hand in hand in saving your natural teeth and to avoid the unpleasant experience associated with extraction.
